Product Description

A group of sixth formers embark on what their charismatic mentor Martyn calls "an experiment with real life". The are locked in a dark room and when the experiment is up Martyn will release them, but after 3 days he still hasn't returned.

From the Back Cover

It was only supposed to be a bit of fun to round off the term. Rather than joining the geography field trip, a group of sixth-formers embark on what their charismatic mentor Martyn calls 'an experiment with real life'. They are locked in a forgotten, windowless cellar room below the deserted school. When the three days of the experiment are up, Martyn will return and release them.

At first it's all a laugh, a game, a joke. But three days pass and Martyn does not come back. The experiment has only just begun...

4.0 out of 5 stars read the book and skip the film, 13 May 2001
By A Customer
this book is compelling and i highly recommend it to anyone who has the desire to read it, all i suggest is that you read it before the film becuase it is a big bunch of a***! the book is nothing like it, it's so much better than the film because of the way in which it is written...

5.0 out of 5 stars READ THE BOOK FIRST!, 26 April 2001
If there is only one piece of advice I can give in the world, PLEASE read the book before you see the film. I am disappointed to see Burt has changed the name of the book, which was originally "After the Hole", and it is quite simply one of the most startling, unique and disturbing books ever written. I cannot recommend it highly enough, and unfortunately the film was never ever going to be able to do it justice. And once you are hooked on Burt's work, give "Sophie" a miss and head straight to the outstanding "Dandelion Clock".

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing debut, 23 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Hole (Hardcover)
A little short, but otherwise absolutely fantastic novel from Guy Burt. It all starts as a social experiment for five students, who all get locked up together in an abandoned cellar. The experiment is supposed to last for three days, but as time passes they soon realise that nobody is coming to unlock the gate. And nobody knows where they are. Published already in 1993, it's good to see another hard-cover version of this fantastic book.

3.0 out of 5 stars fascinating
A brilliant case of out foxing the fox. Not to long which was a good job as I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting with lots of tea and biscuits. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay
This book was good but I found it confusing. When you finish the story there is a chapter which rounds it off, and explains that the ending is not how Liz describes it. Read more
